Recent iPhones can measure heights instantly

Here's a party trick for iPhones with a LiDAR Scanner. You can use the rear camera to get someone's height. This works with the iPhone 12, 13, and 14 Pro and Pro Max models. To measure your height or someone else's you need to use the Measure app. Then you can point your iPhone at the person you want to measure. They should be visible from head to toe. After a few moments, you should see a line with the person's height at the top of their head. You can choose to have the measurement displayed in feet and inches or centimetres. There will be a circular shutter button in the bottom-right corner to take a photo of the person with their height measurement.

'Fortnite' Chapter 4 gets Geralt of Rivia, a new island, dirt bikes

Fortnite has finally launched Chapter 4, which brings a new island with new features. Those with this season's battle pass get new unlockable characters, including The Witcher's Geralt of Rivia, Doom's Doom Slayer, The Incredible Hulk (though he's coming soon), and a couple of Fortnite originals including a skater dude named Massai and an axe-wielding girl who loves boba.

The new island features different points of interest, including a citadel housing a character known as "the Ageless," some kind of abandoned farm, and a mine full of new material called kinetic ore. There's a new vehicle in the form of dirt bikes, which is called a "trail thrasher" in the game. You can roll around in a giant snowball, use a flying jellyfish to restore health, acquire a melee weapon called the "shockwave hammer," and more. You can check out the complete list of changes here.

Frictional Games introduces new 'Amnesia: The Bunker'

Frictional Games has introduced a new game into its Amnesia series. Amnesia: The Bunker is the new survival horror title with a semi-open world, sandbox-style gameplay. It looks like it's the first one to introduce guns into the series. For now, there's not much we know about the title beyond this announcement, but it's expected to launch sometime next year on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation.

“For the first time, players are equipped with high levels of freedom to impact gameplay, choosing their playstyle as they explore at will this semi-open world,” Frictional said in the press release. “With hardly any scripted events, and constant tension brought about by an ever-present threat, it is up to each player to finesse their approach to survival.”

Apple reportedly renames realityOS to xrOS

With rumours of its mixed reality headset coming soon, Apple has reportedly changed up the name of the operating system it's going to run on. Instead of going by realityOS—as it's been called in the past seven years—it now goes by xrOS. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported about the change in his weekly Power On newsletter. The change to "xr" supposedly makes it easier for Apple to signal that it isn't just working on augmented or virtual reality. Instead, it's pursuing that true mixed-reality experience. It would also be easier to market globally, since some may have trouble translating the word reality into the local language. It would also still fit into how the company names its different platforms.

Apple has reportedly filed applications in several countries for the name. This a sign that Apple is locking in the brand name for the final product. The mixed reality headset it's working in will reportedly launch in 2023.
