Motoring: VW unveils XL1 concept diesel-hybrid which boasts 313 MPG

The new Volkswagen XL1 Super Efficient Vehicle (SEV) has been unveiled at the Qatar Motor Show. Pioneering construction techniques, an advanced plug-in hybrid drivetrain and innovative packaging all play a part in allowing the XL1 to return 313 mpg on the combined cycle while emitting 24 g/km of CO2 to set a new benchmark for vehicle efficiency. We have mixed feeling about the design, it partly looks like an Audi but it also has a little something-something from the Honda Insight.

The Apple Beat: Happy Birthday Macintosh!

It was a big news week for Apple and  the buzz was not product related at all. An unexpected health leave letter from CEO Steve Jobs preceded the first quarter results conference call where Apple posted record revenue of $26.74 billion and record net quarterly profit of $6 billion.

Following that, the announcement of 10th billion app was downloaded in the UK. Heading into Macworld which is happening in San Francisco this week, we're expecting more exciting news and revelations. Finally, we celebrate the Macintosh as it hits its 27-year milestone.

Motoring: Porsche's 911 Carrera Black Edition coming in Spring

The Porsche 911 Black Edition will have a limited run of 1,911 units worldwide and will be making an appearance this Spring. Already an iconic sportscar, the Porsche 911 Black Edition,  is a rear-wheel drive 911 Carrera Coupe or Cabriolet powered by a 3.6-litre engine. It will be available only in solid black or basalt black metallic. The coupe goes for $92,800 and the cabriolet rings in at $104,200.
