Starting on Tuesday, the car-sharing company  Car2go is adding over 100 roomier Mercedes-Benz CLAs and GLAs to their fleet in Calgary.

Both the CLAs and GLAs are all-wheel drive, five-passenger vehicles. The CLA is a coupe while the GLA is a compact crossover with expanded cargo capacity.

“Our Calgary members have shown us that having an option with room for more passengers is what they want — one that also performs well, no matter the season,” car2go Calgary general manager Jon Wycoco said in a news release.

Google tries out putting search results within search results

Google is known to try out certain features with a small group of users to see the reception for the feature and whether it warrants a wider release. One of the new features that’s popped up on Google Search app on mobile was reported by 9to5Google’s Justin Duino. It shows additional results from a pop-up window after you look for a particular thing or term. He tried looking up the price of a product and then some sort of pop-up cards, like you’d see with Google Assistant showed up at the bottom of his screen with the words: “People also view.” Duino was running 7.8.17.21 version of Google’s app. You can see what the pop-up search results look like in the image above.

Google Play Store wants to bring to your attention apps that don’t crash

In a “why haven’t they been doing more of this before” moment, Google just announced that it’s making changes to the Play Store to make it easier for you to find apps that work properly. A new post on Google’s Android Developers Blog, states that half of the one-star reviews some Play Store apps get are over app stability (or lack thereof). Keeping that in mind, Google plans to improve its search and discovery algorithm on the app store to show app quality. “This results in higher quality apps being surfaced in the Play Store more than similar apps of lower quality (e.g. apps that exhibit more frequent crashes,” the post says. And for developers who find themselves suddenly at the bottom of the search list, Google encourages you to take a look at feedback and use that to help improve the app.

Apple might get rid of Touch ID for ‘iPhone 8’

The next-generation Apple iPhone might be getting rid of a key feature: Touch ID sensor. GSMArena shows leaks of what is supposedly a complete iPhone 8 display assembly. It can’t be said from the image if this will be an OLED display or if it will have an edge-to-edge design but it does check out on some other rumours about the device. The two new circular cutouts at the upper left side of the phone are said to be for the iris scanner. The bigger circular cutout on the right is also for the scanner, while the smaller hole one the right is for the FaceTime camera.

The Touch ID sensor, though, isn't visible on the panel. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple is ditching the embedded sensor completely. And Apple is said to be using the iris scanner in its place. Some other rumours have previously said that Apple was considering putting Touch ID underneath the glass, among other methods to retain the sensor. But as, Apple Insider reports, a recent HomePod firmware update seems to back Kuo's claims. There are lines of code linked to the phone's “FaceDetect” software, which is referred to as “Pearl ID” in the update. It shows tie-ins with Apple Pay authentication. If there is some veracity to these rumours, we can't say yet what biometric security Apple plans to use for the next iPhone and how secure that will be. With the new device tipped to come out next month, we might not have to wait too long.
