Review: Rowenta Intense Air Pure Purifier

By Sonya Davidson

When we finally decided it was a good time to add a furry friend to our home we did some research. Our son had his heart set on a corgi. All research has drawn to the same conclusions on this breed - great family dog and loyal. We knew it was a shedding dog so while I have allergies to some breeds, this one I wasn’t sure of. So, we set off to meet a few breeders and with our luck, none of us had any allergic reactions. But having said that, there are few family members who are allergic to dogs but we decided there were enough ways to minimize airborne hair and dander to keep things at bay, hopefully. Constant vacuuming of the floors and removing most carpeting was important. But so was keeping the air clean.

We understood that corgis shed. Honestly we had NO IDEA just how much this little puppy sheds his hair. Apparently twice a year he goes through a major shedding. We just survived one where it left us covered in fur. Our vacuum was constantly filled to the limits. Remarkable.

Now that we’re heading into the colder and “staying indoors” weather, vacuuming just isn’t enough. We have been testing out the ROWENTA INTENSE PURE AIR for a month.

iOS 12 adoption rate now at 50 percent of devices

Apple's latest version of its mobile operating system, iOS 12  was released in September 17th and is now reportedly on 50 per cent of all devices including iPhones and iPads. Apple says 53 [er cent of devices in the past 4 years are using iOS 12.

Operating system rollouts have been a strong feature for Apple devices with the majority of users donwloading, installing and enjoying the new features within days of availability. Apple is also good for letting older devices work with new versions of the OS, oftentimes even improving performance and battery life on older modles. This has been the case with iOS 12 which has extended performance and usability on older iPhones and iPads.

The OS adoption rate and backwards compatibility has been a strong point for Apple. Android devices usually stop supporting newer versions after two upgrade cycles.

Instagram testing out feature to let you tap through posts instead of scroll through them

Suprateek Bose

You thought Instagram was a time suck before, this new feature the social network is testing might just amplify that. Remember how you just tap through Stories to see the next one? Well, Instagram is trying this out with posts, in case, you know, you get tired of scrolling. It’s trying this out with some users and their Explore tabs. And since the Explore tab is filled with content Instagram’s algorithm thinks you’re interested in, we can already imagine what damage this can cause when it comes to trying to stay away from it. And if you do have access to this test, be careful, you might end up double-tapping and liking a post you didn’t intend to.

Google Translate adds 13 more languages it can visually translate

Google’s handy Translate app is now supporting close to 50 languages it can support when it comes to visual translations. This week, the company adds 13 more languages, including Vietnamese, Thai, Punjabi, Tamil, and Nepali, to name a few. If you want to use visual translation, you just need to navigate to the camera icon on the app. This will prompt you to line up the text you want to translate into the photo’s box. The app will scan the text using a machine learning technique known as Neural Machine Translation. This will give you a translation (hopefully a correct one) into the language of your choice. Both the Android and iOS versions of the app will be getting support for these additional languages.
