LG launches G7 ThinQ

LG is trying its hand once again to stir up some excitement for its mobile division with the launch of the G7 ThinQ. The phone has the makings of what’s expected from a 2018 smartphone. It sports a 6.1-inch QHD LCD display (with a notch), which the company boasts has 1000 nits brightness, and its speakers can supposedly pump out over 100 decibels of sound. The headphone jack stays and now supports DTS-X virtual surround sound. It runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB storage with microSD expansion, and a 3,000mAh battery with wireless charging support. And it also has IP68 water resistance.

It feels very much like a “me too” device. For a company like LG, who has on multiple occasions gone ahead and made some unusual yet somewhat forward-thinking ideas, seems uninspired. LG is trying its hand at AI, which you can see in the ThinQ branding of the G7, and bringing it to its own camera Similar to what the Huawei Mate 10 Pro and P20 Pro have done, the AI camera can identify different scenes and objects. Its dual 16-megapixel rear cameras that comes with a pixel binning feature, which is similar to HTC’s UltraPixel tech. It combines nearby photo pixels into one big pixel to improve light-sensitivity and get brighter, less grainy photos. The resolution gets cut down to 4-megapixel instead of 16-megapixel.

Here’s a new look at ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp’

If you were thinking you’d catch a glimpse of what happened post-Avengers: Infinity War, we’re sorry to disappoint you but Marvel’s next movie Ant-Man and the Wasp is set before the big throw down with Thanos. Our last sighting of Scott Lang a.k.a. Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) was when he went home to be with his family instead of teaming up with Captain America. But now Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and his daughter Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) need him back in the suit. But this time, he gets Hope in on the action as Wasp, Ant-Man’s long-time superhero partner in the comics. We get to see more high jinks ensue in both big and small ways in the new two-minute trailer. Ant-Man and the Wasp is set to hit theatres on July 6.

New Philips Hue Labs formulas help parents with young children

Philips Hue Labs have just released some new formulas or functionalities to help parents take care of their babies and toddlers. There are four different formulas you can try out. One is for nursery lights, which is a special light that can be used in the middle of the night when you’re breast feeding or changing your baby’s diapers. When this is activated, it’ll have the light start in a “relaxing dimmed scene” that will then transition into “nightlight scene” before it completely turns off automatically. You can choose how long these two scenes last. Another is using the Philips Hue motion sensor to measure temperature. You can set two alerting scenes to let you know if the temperature in your baby’s room is above or below the thresholds.

The two other formulas are designed more for toddlers. One is using the motion sensor to alert you if your kid gets out of bed in the middle of the night. You can choose how long this alerting scene stays on before it reverts to its previous state and how long it should be disabled so you can put them back to bed without triggering the alert again. Last formula is like a traffic light of sorts for kids. You can set two scenes that will teach your toddler whether it’s still time to stay in bed or when they’re allowed to get up and play.
