Facebook’s Slack competitor is now out of beta

Facebook is done beta testing its Facebook at Work service. Now called Workplace, this enterprise service charges its customers a per-user subscription fee each month. This guarantees no ads in the service, though. Also, it’s separate from your personal Facebook account so it does help lessen the distraction a bit (for now at least). Don’t expect it to offer so many productivity tools a la Microsoft Office suite. For now it’s a communication tool, much like Slack, but at lower prices.

They are charging: US$3 per user for companies with fewer than 1,000 monthly active users, US$2 per user for companies with 1,001 – 10,000 monthly active users, and US$1 per use for companies with 10,000+ monthly active users. For comparison, Slack has a free version but the “standard” tier, which has unlimited message storage and group phone calls, and goes for US$6.67.

Public beta version of Android 7.1 to come to some Nexus devices

Nexus 6P, 5X and Pixel C users are in for a treat. The first public beta version Android Nougat or Android 7.1 is coming this month. Nexus users won’t be the only ones to get the first and latest Android updates (especially built-in features to the new Pixel devices such as Google Assistant, Pixel Camera, Pixel Launcher, and 24/7 customer support) but they do get new features such as Night Light and Daydream VR support. Night Light is Android’s answer to Night Shift in iOS. Another one of the new features include the ability for developers to add “app shortcuts” to their Android apps. Google won’t say yet when the widespread release of Android 7.1 will be but those in the beta program don’t have to wait that much longer. You can sign up for the program here.

The Samsung Galaxy Note7 has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. We've not even had a chance to review this flagship handset but have already published multiple posts regarding various dangerous fires and explosions due to faulty batteries. Even as the company tried to get in front of the issue and kicked off a global replacement program.
