Google releases Android 7.0 'nougat' to Nexus devices

Google has released the latest version of its popular and dominant Android OS mobile operating system. Codenamed Android N or 'Nougat' the latest tasty dessert is a product of collaboration from thousands of developers and users who have participated in Android's beta program.

"Android Nougat reflects input from thousands of fans and developers all over the world. There are over 250 major features in Android Nougat, but we wanted to highlight a few of the features you’ve been most excited about," a Google representative wrote on the Android Blog.

Nougat is said to be more personal, better for productivity, and more secure. We have no Nexus devices on hand so we will likely review the OS when it comes to our HTC 10 ot Moto G Plus handsets that we use for testing and app reviews.

Barbra Streisand gets Siri to correctly pronounce her name, hints at possible release of new iOS update

It pays to be a superstar with friends in really high places. Barbra Streisand has had her name mispronounced by Apple’s virtual assistant Siri all this time. Siri has been pronouncing her name as “Strei-zand” instead of “Strei-sand.” So, what is Barbra Streisand to do? She calls Apple CEO Tim Cook to see if he can fix this, and, of course, he does.  As she narrates this experience in an interview with NPR, Streisand seems to have released an important update when it comes to iOS 10, which might be heading our way on September 30^th.

Bangkok takes action against misbehaving ‘Pokémon Go’ players

There’s now a special police squad in Thailand that are specifically on the lookout for rule-breaking Pokémon Go players—and no we’re not talking about breaking the rules of the game, more like causing things like road accidents. And Bangkok Pokémon Go players are being blamed from an increase of these accidents. That’s why Thailand authorities are doing something about it. According to Bangkok’s police chief Sanit Mahathavorn says they have around 50 police officers described as “catchers of Pokémon catchers.” These officers will have smartphones with them and they’ll patrol 10 areas with busy traffic and are considered no-go zones for Pokémon Go players.

Those caught doing things like running while using a phone, hindering traffic while driving carelessly, and playing in an “inappropriate manner” will be fined up to 1,000 baht (about $30). The last one doesn’t point out what constitutes that kind of behaviour.

Samsung will reportedly sell refurbished versions of its high-end phones

A new report from Reuters claims Samsung is looking to keep the momentum of posting its best profits for two years with a new program. Samsung is being rumoured to be starting a re-sale program for refurbished, used version of its higher-end devices. The smartphones will supposedly be handsets returned from upgrade programs in the markets like the US and South Korea. These will then be sold at a lower price. It wasn’t specified in the report how much of a discount will be given and which countries the program will be available in.

If there is any truth to this, consumers will probably find the deal tempting, especially with the good reviews the new Samsung devices have been getting. For those who can’t afford the extremely high price tags of the likes of the Galaxy S7and Note7.
