Test Drive: 2016 Chevrolet Volt EV

Text and photos by Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

On EV mode, the Volt accelerates smoothly and in a measured manner. if you really push down on the accelerator, you will hear an electronic whine which sounds like Iron Man’s repulsor glove charging up. Engine noise is near non-existent and, when pushed, the Volt accelerates like a turbocharged automatic sedan.

Scott, Quebec – GM Canada set up base last week at the luxurious La Cache de Maxime spa, vineyard and hotel in the Quebec countryside to give Canadian journalists the very first opportunity to test drive the new 2016 Chevy Volt Electric Vehicle.

With fall colours peaking, GM’s executive and PR team devised a two-leg drive along the picturesque provincial roads and highways which would be ideal for testing the Volt’s range, performance as well as ride and standard equipment. Journalists were paired up in twos and  given a chance to try both variants of the Chevy Volt.

HTC One A9 comes to Canada unlocked for $549

Photos by Alex Davies

HTC is launching an entirely new smartphone. The HTC One A9 diverts dramatically from the HTC One M9 and HTC Desire lines by offering an all aluminum and glass design that's more rounded, thinner, and features a fingerprint reader.

What's also interesting about the HTC One A9 is that it won't be sold through carriers like previous HTC models were. It will be sold directly by HTC via their HTC.com/ca website and will cost CAD $549 unlocked.

Available in Carbon Gray, Opal Silver, Topaz Gold and Deep Garnet colours, the HTC One A9 features a 5-inch 1080p display, the latest Android Marshmallow OS, a 64-bit octa core Snapdragon 617 processor, variants will include either 32GB of storage with 3GB of RAM or 16GB with 2GB of RAM. The new HTC One A9 will support Android Pay where accepted (US).

Keep your phone in place with the Spigen Air Vent Magnetic Car Mount Holder

Looking for a car mount that can keep your phone in place? Spigen’s Air Vent Magnetic Car Mount Holder might be a good option for you. As mentioned in its name, it attaches to the air vent of your car. It has a strong neodymium magnet in it. It comes with two thin metal plates with adhesive that you can attach to the back of your phone or case and use that to attach to the mount. The car mount holder even has a kickstand so you can take it with you outside of the car. But Spigen notes that the metal plates could hinder wireless charging. Keep that in mind if that’s important to you. It’s compatible with all smartphones. Its list price on Amazon is $24.99 but it’s up for sale for $12.99, which is a 48% cut off the original price.
