Nintendo launches BIG pink fun with new Kirby: Triple Deluxe

By Sonya Davidson

In celebration, of the North American launch of Kirby: Triple Deluxe for 3DS, Nintendo hosted an intimate launch event with kid reviewers in Toronto recently to try out the new game. And yes, the huggable Kirby woke up from Dreamland and joined the kids in some fun!

My 9 year old fell in love with the new game fast! In the new installment to the popular series, players must help Kirby save longtime rival King Dedede by traveling through worlds while inhaling enemies.  New features include a “hypernova” ability that gives Kirby the power to inhale everything in its way including massive trees and level sections. This was a hands-down favourite amongst the kid reviewers!

Microsoft updates OneNote app for iOS and Mac

Microsoft isn’t just focusing on its Office for iPad apps. The Redmond, Washington-based company has updated its OneNote app for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.  The iOS 7 apps have been redesigned to make it easier to navigate the interface and to let you create new notebooks and sections right from the iPhone. They also ported the Office Lens feature on the iPad to the iPhone to help you digitize documents or notes written on whiteboards.

Meanwhile, the Mac version gets the ability to print notes. You can also save pages as PDF; copy and paste formatted contents from other sources with the formatting kept; as well as drag and drop photos and format them on OneNote. You can now also add a display name for hyperlinks so you would be able to identify the links you’ve saved and you can keep consist text format for notes with Format Painter.

Snapchat adds IM and video chat to service

Snapchat doesn’t do away with its self-destructing messages but has updated its iOS and Android apps to do a bit more.  The app now lets you instant message your friends and have live video chats with them. You can start chatting with your friends by swiping to the right from your main screen. You’ll see the list of people available for chats. While this is much like the other messaging services out there, the text from your conversations are wiped after you close the chat screen, unless you tell the app to keep them.

For video chats, a blue icon will pop up at the bottom of the screen when your friend is chatting with you. You press and hold this open for a one-way stream. The person you’re chatting with can do the same thing as well. There are gestures you can use to switch back and forth with your front- and rear-facing cameras.

Microsoft releases patch for IE zero-day flaw, includes security update for unsupported Windows XP

It looks like the security flaw discovered in version 6 to 11 of Internet Explorer was serious enough that Microsoft released an “out-of-band” fix for it. (The company usually releases security patches on the second Tuesday of every month.) This means all supported versions of Windows will be getting the patch. Unusually, Microsoft decided to issue a security update for Windows XP, which they discontinued support for already. This might be a bad move on the company’s part because it encourages its users to keep on using the old operating system. Here’s the link to the security update just in case you haven’t activated automatic update for your Windows OS.
