iOS 8.3 update to addresses diversity with new skin tone emojis and flags

Apple's iOS 8.3 update coming to iPhones, iPad and iPod Touches will bring over 300 new emoji icons, many of which will focus on diversity. Communicating with the use of  emoji icons in email or messaging apps has been gaining popularity as these small illustrations can often do a quicker job of sending a message or response.

The standards for emoji character is changing and quickly showing a more diverse and inclusive range of skin tones, flags and culturally diverse icons. Definitely something to look forward to when iOS 8.3 comes around.

Microsoft to help you find your friends on Windows Phone

Taking their cues from Apple’s Find My Friends, Microsoft is working on their own version of this. They’re calling it People Sense (or Buddy Aware in the listing) and it is in private beta testing at the moment. You can call and message your loved ones within the app and get directions to where your other Windows Phone-toting friends and family are if you feel like meeting up.

Apple's Maps Connect now available for Canadian small businesses

Apple has announced that Canadian business owners will be able to add their business location and information to Apple Maps via an Apple Maps Connect service. Ideal for entrepreneurs and small businesses who want to make their location, store hours and other information easy to find on Apple Maps.

Review: Samsung Galaxy Note Edge

Samsung is really focusing on what this tiny sliver of slanted screen can offer. They do include various apps and app add-ons that can make use of the Edge display. This is an innovative feature that's still too new and too insular to be considered as anything more than a gimmick. 

Faced by declining sales of its flagship Galaxy S5 as well as mounting competition from Apple, Samsung is trying very hard to innovate in the smartphone space by leveraging its mastery of displays. The answer is the Galaxy Note Edge, which takes the Note 4’s best features, and adds a unique curved edge screen which tapers to the right-hand side of the phone.
