CIBC rolls out "mobile cheque deposit" update for iOS and Android

As big and proud a nation that we are, when it comes to adopting new technologies, Canada has always been a bit delayed to the game. ING first adopted this feature not too long ago, so today's announcement from CIBC is a big, positive step in the right direction; hopefully the rest of the Canadian banks follow suit. Basically, what this app update does is grants users' the ability to deposit cheques (personal or business) into their account using the camera on their iPhone, iPad, or Android smartphone or tablet.

Of course, this convenience does not run users' any additional bank fees.

Doodle 4 Google Competition for Kids

By Sonya Davidson

We all love seeing the different designs around the Google logo. Often the logos are dressed up to highlight a special date or to pay tribute to someone special. They're fun and sometimes surprising.

For the first time, Google Canada is organizing a national Doodle 4 Google contest for kids. This year's theme is "If "I could invent anything , I would invent..."  Students from kindergarten to grade 12 are invited to submit their logo designs for the Google.ca homepage. The winning doodler will received a $10,000 scholarship a Google Chromebook and a $10,000 grant to their current school along with a trip to Toronto to view a speical exhibition of the top doodle entries at the Royal Ontario Museum in 2014. The winning doodle will also be featured on the homepage for 24 hours. Hit jump for more information and submission requirements.

HTC One with dual-SIM slots and microSD expansion comes to the UK

Just when we thought it wasn't going to be possible to improve the HTC One after it came in various colours and even sizes, a better version comes along. Featuring a removable backplate, this HTC One reveals two microSIM card slots as well as a microSD card slot for memory expansion. Exclusive to the UK (although this would really be popular in South East Asia, Africa and Europe, where dual-SIM phones are a necessity), no word of if and when it will be coming to North America. You do lose LTE connectivity for this model but nobody said you could have it all,

Google patent out to remove social aspect of social networking

ReadWrite reports that Google owns a software patent that studies how you act on social networks and prepares “personalized” suggestions on how you should react to Facebook posts and tweets. While that might make your life easier, this technology might just take out what little socializing we actually do.
