Tesla Motors supercharger network enables electric travel in Western Canada

Tesla Motors has energized the highly-anticipated Supercharger corridor between Vancouver and Calgary, enabling free, long-distance electric driving for Tesla Model S owners.

The completion of both Highway 1 and the Sea-to-Sky Highway enables Tesla Model S owners to now travel for free between Whistler, Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton. A full map of the Western Canada network is available at teslamotors.com/supercharger.

The final Supercharger station to enable travel between Vancouver and Calgary opened in Canmore, Alberta. This station, when paired with others in Hope, Kamloops, Revelstoke, and Golden enables Model S owners to drive for free, stopping briefly to charge up right off Highway 1. The route between Calgary and Edmonton was also enabled earlier this year and Sea-to-Sky Highway was completed last summer. While Model S owners can now drive between all major cities in Western Canada, Tesla will continue to add density to the Supercharger network, opening a number of new stations in British Columbia and Alberta this year.

Superchargers are designed for long distance travel between cities, allowing Tesla Model S electric vehicle drivers to travel for about three hours, take a 20 to 30 minute break, and get back on the road charged up.

The Tesla Supercharger is substantially more powerful than any charging technology to date, providing up to 120 kilowatts of power and replenishing half of Model S’s 425 KM range in just twenty minutes.

Supercharger stations are strategically placed to allow owners to drive from station to station with minimal stops. Stations are located near amenities like roadside diners, cafes, and shopping centers so road trippers can stop for a quick meal and have their Model S charged by the time they’re done.
