This is how Instagram plans to bring back the chronological feed

Instagram's head Adam Mosseri shared more details about the social media site's plan to bring back its chronological feed. In a Q&A on his Instagram Story released on Friday, he said the company is experimenting with two versions of the feature, which it is targeting to release "early next year."

One version shows you the chronological feed but would let you "pick your favorites and they show up at the top in chronological order." The other version lets you see posts from all those you follow in chronological order. Mosseri said Instagram is "already testing the favorites idea," while the "full chronological" mode would arrive shortly after.

Mosseri also wanted to reiterate that the existing algorithmic feed won't be going away in favour of the chronological option. "We're not moving away from ranking altogether. We're going to give people the option to go to a chronological version of feed," he said. "But at a high level, we believe that ranking helps us connect people with the content that matters to them most."
