ASUS brings back the Flip Camera with Zenfone 8 Flip

ASUS Zenfone 8 Flip (ASUS)

If having a more unconventional smartphone is more your speed, then you might want to get your hands on the ASUS Zenfone 8 Flip. Unlike the Zenfone 8, this handset carries the design and specs of the previous-generation Zenfone 7. ASUS doesn't want comparisons with the Zenfone 7 Pro, but it isn't known if there will be a Pro variant of the Zenfone 8.

What you get this year is also a 6.67-inch FHD+ all-screen AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection, 92% screen-to-body ratio, 20:9 aspect ratio, 90Hz refresh rate, and 200Hz touch sampling rate.

Like the Zenfone 8, it runs on the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G chipset with Adreno 660 GPU and Android 11 with ZenUI 8. But it only gets 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. The Zenfone 8 Flip has a bigger 5,000mAh battery than the Zenfone 8.

It also keeps the same primary and ultra-wide sensors on the Zenfone 8 and its predecessor, a Sony IMX686 64-megapixel with optical image stabilization and a Sony IMX363 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. The Zenfone 8 loses the telephoto lens, but the Zenfone 8 Flip retains the 8-megapixel telephoto lens.

As with Zenfone 7, the camera flips up so you can take your selfies or record vlogs with ease. It is designed to withstand around 150 flips per day for over five years.

ASUS offers a Quick Angle Shooting mode, where you just need to press on the volume keys to have the camera change angles between the default 0, 45, 90, and 135 degrees.

The ASUS Zenfone 8 Flip comes in Galactic Black and Glacier Silver. Pricing begins at EUR 799 (around CAD 1,172).
