You can finally delete your Threads account without deleting your Instagram profile

Meta

Meta has recently made some changes to Threads. One of the new features is the ability to delete your Threads account without affecting your Instagram profile. You can do this by going to Settings -> Account -> Delete or deactivate profile in the Threads app.

Another new feature is the option to opt out of having your Threads posts show up in the main feeds of Instagram and Facebook. This gives you more control over who can see your content on Threads. However, Threads is still very much linked to Instagram. You need an Instagram account to use Threads, and you can only message your Instagram contacts on the app. Threads also uses your Instagram activity to suggest friends and features.

Meta has plans to make Threads more independent in the future. It wants to make Threads compatible with ActivityPub, an open-source protocol that powers many alternative social media platforms. This would allow Threads users to interact with other services that use ActivityPub, even if they don’t have an Instagram account.
