Microsoft and Inworld AI team up to bring AI tools to Xbox games

Inworld AI

Microsoft is partnering with Inworld AI to develop AI tools for Xbox games, such as AI-enhanced characters and dynamic storylines. The Verge reports that this multiyear deal will enable Xbox developers to use artificial intelligence more effectively in their game design. Inworld AI will focus on creating an AI design copilot and an AI character runtime engine, similar to the ones used by modder Bloc in his AI-powered GTA 5 mod Sentient Streets. That was was shut down by Take-Two, though.

These AI tools are not mandatory for game developers, but they are part of a growing trend of using AI in game development. Companies like Ubisoft and Embark Studios have already adopted AI in some of their games, but the use of AI in the gaming and entertainment industry is still controversial.

Microsoft, the parent company of Xbox, has been investing heavily in AI this year, including backing OpenAI and upgrading its Bing and Edge search engines with the same AI technology that powers OpenAI’s chatbot, ChatGPT.
