Google login support for Fitbit users goes live on June 6

If you are a Fitbit user, you might have heard that Google plans to let you log in to your account using your Google credentials. This is part of the integration process after Google acquired Fitbit in 2020 for USD 2.1 billion. But when will this new feature be available, and what does it mean for your data privacy?
Google login support will go live on Fitbit’s app starting June 6. This means that you can access your Fitbit account using the same email and password you use for other Google services (such as Gmail, YouTube, or Google Photos). This will make it easier for you to manage your account and your data across different platforms.
However, this does not mean that you have to switch to Google login right away. If you are an existing Fitbit user, you have until early 2025 to make the transition. That’s two years from now, giving you plenty of time to decide what to do with your data. You can also choose what data you want to transfer from your Fitbit account to your Google account during the migration process. But if you are setting up a new Fitbit account after June 6, you don't have a choice but to use your Google account to sign up. This will also apply to new Fitbit devices that you want to activate in the future.
If you are already using the Sign in with Google option on Fitbit’s app, note that this is different from using your Google account to register. You will still need to migrate your account to Google if you want to continue using your Fitbit devices and data.
Google has also promised that it will not use your Fitbit data for advertising purposes and will keep your health and fitness data separate from other Google data. You can also control your Fitbit data from your Google account settings and the Fitbit app.
