Building on the success of its predecessor, ZTE unveiled the Nubia Neo 2 5G at MWC 2024, a budget-friendly gaming phone with a surprising price tag of only US$199 (around CA$270).
Targeted at gamers who want solid performance without breaking the bank, the Neo 2 boasts several impressive features for its price. It has a large and smooth 6.72-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, ample storage options of up to 256GB, and a long-lasting 6,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging. While the specific chipset remains undisclosed, the phone packs an 8-core CPU clocked at 2.7GHz.
One of the highlights for gamers is the inclusion of dedicated shoulder triggers. These customizable buttons enhance control during gameplay, allowing for actions like firing weapons or throwing grenades.
The design retains the familiar sci-fi aesthetic of its predecessor, with similar black and yellow colour options. However, the camera module now sports a unique octagonal shape.
While details on specific camera specifications and display type are yet to be revealed, the Neo 2's main selling point remains its incredibly low price point, undercutting most other gaming and even mid-range phones.
The phone also boasts the latest iteration of Game Space software, seen on some Redmagic gaming phones. This software allows for further customization of the gaming experience, offering options like performance profiles, audio adjustments, and notification settings.
Overall, the ZTE Nubia Neo 2 5G presents an intriguing option for budget-conscious gamers. While specific details on potential compromises made to achieve the low price are yet to be seen, the phone's combination of features and affordability is certainly attention-grabbing.
