Google Pixel 9 lineup gets a shakeup with potential Pro sizes and XL return

Image: OnLeaks x 91mobiles

Get ready for more Pixel choices! Google might be revamping its smartphone strategy with three Pixel 9 models, according to 91mobiles. Earlier leaks from OnLeaks supposedly showcased the Pixel 9 Pro and a possible Pixel 9 Pro XL, not the standard Pixel 9 which is revealed here for the first time.

Remember the XL branding for larger Pixels? Google shelved it around 2019, but it seems like it might be making a comeback. This aligns with rumours suggesting Google might adopt a strategy similar to iPhone's Pro tiers with different sizes.

The standard Pixel 9 maintains the flat-edged design seen in leaks, unlike the curved Pixel 8 series. The display corners also appear progressively rounder.

Here's a breakdown of the expected screen sizes:

  • Pixel 9 Pro XL: 6.5 inches
  • Pixel 9 Pro: 6.1 inches
  • Pixel 9: 6.03 inches

Interestingly, the Pixel 9 Pro XL might be slightly smaller than the current Pixel 8 Pro's 6.7 inches. This could be Google's attempt to cater to users who find the 8 Pro too big.

The good news for photography enthusiasts: both Pro models might boast a triple-camera system on the back. So, if you've been waiting for Google's top-notch camera tech in a smaller package, this could be it!

It's important to remember that these are still early days. Google has other priorities before the Pixel 9 launch, potentially including the Pixel 8A and Pixel Fold 2, which might be announced at their I/O event in May. Looking ahead, next year could even see a Pixel 9A, bringing the total variants for that generation to four.
