Sony debuts Xperia 1 VII

Sony announced its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VII, showcasing a blend of its advanced technologies. The new device notably borrows high-fidelity sound technology from Sony's Walkman line for the first time. It also introduces an artificial intelligence-powered Auto Framing feature inspired by its Alpha cameras.

On the camera front, the Xperia 1 VII features a newly upgraded 48-megapixel ultrawide camera with a larger sensor, complementing the main 48-megapixel and 12-megapixel telephoto lenses. The AI-driven Auto Framing can capture a wide scene while simultaneously creating a cropped close-up of a subject.

Audio capabilities have also seen a significant upgrade, incorporating high-end Walkman components, improved wired sound through a premium integrated circuit while retaining the headphone jack, and enhanced LDAC wireless quality, along with support for DSEE Ultimate, 360 Reality Audio, and Dolby Atmos.

The Xperia 1 VII also features a 6.5-inch OLED display with a new adaptive brightness system drawing inspiration from Sony's Bravia TVs. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, it comes with 12GB of RAM, 256GB of expandable storage, and a 5,000mAh battery promising two-day battery life.

While the Sony Xperia 1 VII offers compelling features, it will not be available in Canada. However, orders are now open in Europe and the UK for €1,499 and £1,399, respectively, or a little under CA$2,350.
