Netflix's 'The Umbrella Academy' is coming back for Season 2 on July 31

Netflix has an official release date for the second season of its comic-based superhero series The Umbrella AcademyAnd the show gives an update in an amusing sign of the times sort of way. The show's main cast members appear in a quarantine videoconference teaser dancing to Tiffany's 1987 rendition of "I Think We're Alone Now," which is a nod to a fan-favourite scene in the series' first episode. At the end of the video, it's shown that season 2 will drop on July 31, 2020, worldwide.

The Umbrella Academy is an adaptation of the Dark Horse Comics' series with the same name created and written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá. The show gives us a look into the lives of the six of the 43 infants born on the same day in October 1989 to unconnected women that showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. These six children were adopted by Reginald Hargreeves and trained to save the world. These six "siblings" include Vanya/The White Violin (Ellen Page), Luther/Spaceboy (Tom Hopper), Diego/The Kraken (David Castañeda), Allison/The Rumor (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus/The Séance (Robert Sheehan) and Number Five/The Boy (Aidan Gallagher).

Koodo introduces 'Call Control' to help weed out spam calls

Photo by Hassan OUAJBIR on Unsplash

Telus' flanker brand Koodo is introducing "Call Control" to make it easier to keep spam calls out. Telus already has this feature, and we'll talk about how you can access it later. What Call Control does is ask first-time callers (at least since you've enabled the feature) to enter a number between 0-9. If they enter the right number, the call will go through to you. If not, then they'll be notified that they've been prevented from reaching you.

This task is simple enough to let actual callers through while stopping robocalls from connecting to you. You can add up to 25 numbers to an "Authorized List" to avoid Koodo from screening these calls. And if there are numbers you don't want reaching you at all, you can add up to 25 numbers to your "Blocked List."

Google Meet surpasses 50 million downloads on Play Store

Since Google Meet is now a free service for all users, it comes as no surprise that it has surpassed 50 million downloads on the Play Store. COVID-19 increased demands for apps like these, so Google opted to give all of its users access to the app that used to only be free for GSuite users. It's not surprising that it went from five million downloads at the start of March, then 10 million users 20 days later, and now over 50 million. The platform has hosted three billion minutes of video meetings daily, through its iOS, Android, and web apps.

Google Meet is similar to Zoom in that it can have a single host with up to 100 participants. Skype and Facebook Messenger, on the other hand, are limited to 50 participants for its free users. Google secures Meet by requiring users to have Google accounts and lets users create and join meetings using codes. If you use Gmail, you probably see the option to start or join a meeting on the left sidebar of the web app, making it easier to use its service.

Apple has devised a system to reopen its various retail stores including 12 stores in Canada. The often packed retail stores were shut down as part of social-distancing efforts to help negate the spread of COVID-19 months ago. Apple Stores are more than just retail hubs for picking up the latest computers, iPhones, and accessories. They are the key point of interaction between Apple and customers, the latter flock to their local Apple stores for service and support, as well as to partake of ongoing training and demos.
