Patent suggests Samsung’s developing a DeX accessory that connects phones to external displays wirelessly

If a recently filed patent is anything to go by, Samsung might be working on something new for its Desktop eXperience platform, or DeX as we’ve come to know it. The company filed a patent with the European Union Intellectual Property Office for “DeX Live.” While technical details for the patent are sparse, the application does mention wireless networks. This suggests Samsung might be cutting the cord when it comes to the next-generation DeX accessory. The current DeX Pad and DeX Station launched alongside the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus lets you connect your phones to a monitor using an HDMI cable.

Back in 2018, it was being speculated that the next-generation DeX would feature wireless technology. With the launch of the Galaxy Note 10 coming up, the recent patent application hints at the possibility of a wireless DeX accessory coming this year. And since the Note line is Samsung’s flagship device when it comes to productivity tools, the timing might make sense. How this is going to be implemented is something we don’t know right now. But we’re keeping our eyes and ears peeled for updates.

Dell uses reclaimed automotive windshields in backpacks

Why write about sustainability on a tech website? With the increasing trend of global waste generation, it’s worth a moment to consider the environmental impact of all these devices in our markets. Instead of the environment being an after-thought, Dell Technologies has intentionally incorporated sustainable solutions as an overall business objective. For example, since 2008, they’ve been using recycled water bottles and CD cases in PC’s, displays, and servers. “The sustainability concept is integrated into our design strategy. It’s already embedded in our DNA so everything we’ve designed, we’ll think of the product from end-to-end,” explains Vivian Tai, Senior Manager (APJ Region), Global Product Compliance & Environmental Affairs.

Huawei reportedly cuts back phone production following US crackdown

Embed from Getty Images

Huawei seems to be managing expectations on how many phones it’ll be able to sell with the US ban still ongoing. According to a report from South China Morning Post, sources claim Foxconn has halted Huawei phone production lines as the company cut back on orders. It wasn’t specified if this was going to be a short- or long-term cut, but this follows months of Huawei increasing its demand for phones. The move that reportedly prompted Foxconn to go on a hiring spree. Foxconn declined to comment on the report, while Huawei hasn’t responded to initial requests for comments. If the report is to be believed, it looks like Huawei is buckling down to minimize its losses as it can’t work with its US partners at the moment.
