Snapchat comes to the desktop with Snap Camera

Before you get ahead of yourself, Snapchat coming to the desktop isn’t the same as its mobile counterpart. Instead, Snap Camera is designed to add custom lenses to other video conferencing and social desktop apps, such as Twitch, Skype, and YouTube. The free app is coming to Windows 10 and macOS and is designed to run in the background as a camera output. Through the app, you get access to “thousands” of lenses, which is accessible via a gallery within the app. You don’t need a Snapchat account to use it.

Twitch users seem to get a special feature though as broadcasters and viewers can unlock special Snap Camera lenses in broadcasts by scanning QR codes. Some of these lenses include faces of characters from games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and League of Legends. The minimum system requirements you’ll need to get Snap Camera running include a PC or Mac with an Intel Core i3 processor clocked at least 2.5GHz or an AMD Phenom II clocked at 2.6GHz, 4GB of RAM, and a screen resolution of 1,280 x 768 or higher.

Google Photos’ Live Albums feature has a 10,000-photo limit

Google Photos’ Live Albums feature is a nifty way to get to see photos of your favorite person or pet as it automatically adds photos of your chosen subjects into its own album. But it’s been discovered that there is a 10,000-photo limit to the feature. And once you’ve hit the limit, you’ll get a “Live album paused” warning, saying you won’t be able to add anymore. So, any new photos will you take of your loved ones will have to be viewed through the usually messy All Photos route. Unfortunately, Google’s AI isn’t smart enough to take out any badly shot photos or outtakes of your loved ones, so you’ll need to clean those out yourself manually. According to this issue’s page in Google’s Help Center, you can save 10,000 photos or videos yourself and another 10,000 if you have a shared album.

Blizzard launches esports dedicated app

Blizzard is heavily invested in the esports market so it comes as no surprise that the developer just launched an app that focuses on this industry. The Blizzard Esports Mobile App, which is available on both iOS and Android, brings things like scores, schedules, and other game-centric updates in the similar vein as the NBA app does for the game. It currently supports the tournaments for titles like Overwatch, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, StarCraft, StarCraft II, and World of Warcraft. But it must be noted that the Overwatch League isn’t included here. Perhaps in the future.
