Acer introduces new fitness-centric smartwatch

As part of Acer’s big global press launch in New York City, the Taiwanese company introduced a slew of new products. One of them is a new fitness-centric wearable called the Acer Leap Ware. With looks similar to the old Pebble Time Round, it has a stainless steel round frame surrounding its 1.6-inch Gorilla Glass SR+-protected display. It houses extra sensors with two of them at the side of the watch. These sensors can supposedly monitor more things like stress and exposure to ultraviolet rays—aside from being able to measure things like your heart rate and stamina.

The BlackBerry KeyOne is coming to Canada next month

The TCL-manufactured BlackBerry KeyOne will be making its way to this part of the world next month. It’ll be coming to Canada first on May 18th and will be available through Bell, Bell MTS, Rogers, SaskTel, and TELUS Business for $199 with a two-year contract. It’ll be making its way to the US as well at the end of next month for US$549. They will be selling unlocked versions in the US but Sprint will be offering the device later this summer.

The KeyOne takes inspiration from the BlackBerrys of old with its own physical keyboard. It’s an Android 7.1 Nougat-powered smartphone that runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 625. It has a 4.5-inch touch display, 12-megapixel camera, and 3,505mAh battery. The KeyOne also comes with BlackBerry’s suite of productivity apps.

Nintendo outs New 2DS XL

Nintendo launches a new version of its 2DS portable player. Called the New 2DS XL, it takes cues from the New 3DS with features like Amiibo-compatible NFC reader, C-stick, Z-buttons, extra processing power, and compatibility with games exclusive to the New 3DS XL. Its screen size is around the same size as the 3DS XL but seems to be sleeker and smaller. But as the name suggests, it doesn’t have the 3D capability of the 3DS XL. The New 2DS XL is coming out in the US on July 28th for US$149.99 and it costs $50 less than the New 3DS XL and $70 more than the 2DS. On the same day, Nintendo is also releasing Hey Pikmin! and Miitopia. Japan is getting first dibs with the New 2DS XL launching on July 13th for 14,980 yen.

Doritos partners with Marvel for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 promotion, puts a cassette tape player in its packaging

Building on Peter Quill’s love for music, there will be special edition Doritos nacho cheese bags coming out. The bag of chips will have a cassette player (or at least a music player that looks like one) and will play songs from the Awesome Mix Vol. 2, which is the soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It contains songs from the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Sam Cooke, David Hasselhoff, and George Harrison.

Why do such a thing? A Frito-Lay executive told Billboard, “Can you imagine a better way to listen to this soundtrack than with a bag of Doritos? We couldn’t either.” While we’re not so sure about that, it might be a gimmick some of you can get behind. No word yet on how much it’ll cost but it’ll show up on Doritos’ Amazon page on April 28th.
