Meta dissolves its responsible AI team amid AI controversies

Meta has reportedly disbanded its Responsible AI (RAI) team, which was tasked with ensuring the ethical and safe development of artificial intelligence. According to The Information, which cited an internal post, most of the RAI members will join the generative AI product team, which focuses on creating new content using AI. Others will work on Meta’s AI infrastructure, which supports the company’s various AI applications. The company claims that it will still prioritize and invest in responsible AI development and that the former RAI members will continue to support cross-Meta efforts on AI accountability, transparency, safety, privacy, and more.

Sam Altman’s Microsoft move not final, OpenAI board under pressure

Sam Altman’s move to Microsoft after being fired from OpenAI is not final yet. He and co-founder Greg Brockman want to return to OpenAI if the board members who ousted him resign, sources tell The VergeThe board is under pressure from the threat of losing almost every OpenAI employee, who supports Altman and Brockman. Altman posted on X that the battle continues. He and the company’s investors are still trying to find a graceful exit for the board, sources say.

Meanwhile, the board announced that Emmett Shear, the co-founder of Twitch, would be CEO, but Altman and Brockman are still negotiating with the board to potentially come back.

Researchers have developed a capsule that can monitor vital signs from inside the stomach and could help diagnose sleep disorders and opioid overdoses. The capsule —the size of a vitamin—contains batteries and a wireless antenna that transmits data. It was tested on human volunteers at a sleep lab and showed accurate measurements of respiration, heart rate, temperature and gastric motility.
