iOS 10.1 is now up for download, brings Portrait mode to iPhone 7 Plus

Photo by Gadjo C. SevillaAfter going through public beta, iOS 10.1 is now in its final version. Aside from bug fixes, this update brings the Portrait mode feature to the iPhone 7 Plus’ camera. It offers a bokeh-like effect that makes it look like the photo is shot with a DSLR. The feature is said to currently be in beta. It’s best used on people and animals, according to CNET. The app will save a version of your photo with and without the feature enabled. You can’t edit photos after the fact. To achieve the Portrait mode effect, it has to be enabled when you take the shot.

If you want to get the feature, you can head to Settings > General > Software Update or update via iTubes. Check that you have a couple of gigabytes free and back up your iPhone on your computer or iCloud first. Keep the phone plugged in while updating.

Facebook wants to keep bullies away with Safety Center

While Facebook activities were initially made to connect family and friends, the social network isn’t immune to online bullies and trolls. Facebook hopes to help out in this respect with the Safety Center. The site shows things like how to share posts with a limited audience or privately, report abuse, and even enable two-factor authentication. It might not be the perfect solution for solving a terrible issue but at least it’s a start. And it’s something you might want to check out if you aren’t familiar with the tools Facebook offers here.

Russian database leaks three new Apple MacBooks coming on Thursday

Russian trademark filings point to three new new MacBooks running macOS Sierra, the products have apparently passed the Russian registration, labelled as ‘portable personal computer models’ with model identifiers A1706, A1707 and A1708. This lends credence to the speculation that the 'hello again' event in Cupertino, for which selected Apple media were invited to (but which will be livestreamed for all to see), will focus on the Mac and most likely notebooks.

Looks like we might be seeing two MacBook Pros (13 and 15 inch) and a 13-inch MacBook that's based off the 12-inch MacBook design. The source, which also leaked the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus as well as the Apple Watch Series 2. Unlike iPhones, other Apple products are usually available for pre-order on the day of announcement or might likely even be available in retail stores shortly after the launch.
