Google's Pixel XL adoption is faster than Nexus 6P

Google's new Pixel XL smartphone's adoption has outpaced last year's Nexus 6P flagship. This is likely due to the fact that Google has really put some marketing muscle behind its new phones plus the Pixel and the Pixel XL have been extremely well reviewed by the technology press as the best Android devices in the market right now.

Still in short supply, the Pixel XL took a week to reach a market share comparable to the Nexus 6P two weeks after launch.

The smaller Pixel is showing some amazing growth too. A week after launch day, its numbers were 274% up. Similarly, the Pixel XL more than doubled its launch day numbers after a week of sales (up 158%).

LinkedIn’s new tool will let you know if you’re underpaid

A useful new tool coming to LinkedIn will help you find out if you’re being properly compensated. Called LinkedIn Salary, the tool shows you salary trends in a specific field. You can refine the data by industry and years of experience. It even highlights extra compensation such as signing on bonuses and commission. If you want access to more detailed data, you will need to share your salary. LinkedIn promises that these will be kept securely and won’t be shared with recruiters. Now, if you’re a Premium LinkedIn member, you can access said data without sharing your income.

Netflix might be considering offline playback

Stranger Things (Netflix)

Netflix users have been clamoring for offline playback to no avail for years. But it seems the streaming service might reconsider this… except there isn’t any certainty it’s coming here. Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos says the company is considering bringing offline mode to areas where access to high internet speeds isn’t readily available. "We have talked a lot about this over the years and our belief is that broadband and Wi-Fi become more and more ubiquitous, available in more and more places that you are, more and more minutes of the day," Sarandos told CNBC. "Now as we've launched in more territories… They all have different levels of broadband speeds and Wi-Fi access. So in those countries they have adapted their behaviors to be much more of a downloading culture. So in those emerging territories it starts to become a little more interesting. We still think for the developed world our thesis has been true but I think as we get into more and more (of the) undeveloped world and developing countries that we want to find alternatives for people to use Netflix easily."

Sarandos won’t give a specific date when this feature will be available to users. The idea though is to let users download movies to watch offline. But since the company launched in 130 new countries and added 3.2 million new international subscribers, of course, it seems obvious they want these new markets to drive future growth for the company. We’re still holding out hope they reconsider the original markets they launched in.

Lenovo’s Surface Pro competitor gets leaked

While Lenovo recently released the IdeaPad Miix 510, the tech company reportedly has plans to refresh its Surface Pro competitor. The replacement is supposedly called the IdeaPad Miix 720, which will be the successor of the Miix 700 from last year. It’ll get a boost in terms of specs, including a 12-inch display with a 2,880 x 1,920 resolution, up to 1TB SSD, and up to 16GB of RAM. Processor options will be the latest seventh-generation i3, i5, and i7 Kaby Lake models. It will supposedly have a USB-C port, which will also serve as the means to charge the device, and two legacy USB ports. The signature watchband hinge design will also be retained in the kickstand. No word yet when and how much the device will cost but it probably shouldn’t be too long until we hear word about its official release.
