YouTube goes beyond video with launch of YouTube Community

Today, YouTube is introducing a beta version of a new product called YouTube Community. This new tab, found on the channel homepage, will let Creators add text, live videos, images, animated GIFs and more to share with their fans. Fans can comment and interact with these posts. Subscribers can also opt in to receive a notification anytime their favourite Creators post to their Community.

iOS 10, watchOS 3 and tvOS 10 are now available for download

Apple has started to roll out updates to the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch as well as the Apple Watch and the Apple TV. iOS 10, watchOS 3 and tvOS 10 are now available for download and bring existing devices up to date with new features and capabilities.

iOS 10, which still hasn't rolled out in Canada (I'm on Telus), can be accessed by going to General>Software Update and offers many new features including an expanded Messages App, improved Maps app, smarter Siri integration and improved notification handling among others. 

watchOS 3 is the most significant update to Apple Watch and fundamentally changes many of that wearable's function including new watchfaces and complications, a new Breathe app for relaxations and snappier performance and more granular fitness tracking. To install watchOS 3, you must enable it from the Watch app on a paired iOS 10 iPhone.  tvOS brings similar updates and refinements to Apple's set-top box. 

TIFF's premiere of LION and how it brings us home

There is much buzz already with the World Premiere of Garth Davis's LION here at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. The first screening apparently received a standing ovation and the trailer is enough to have me go through several tissues. 

The film stars Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) in the lead adult role in the real life story of Saroo Brierley who was separated from his family at four years old in rural India. Based on his book A Long Way Home, Saroo gets lost on a train which takes him thousands of kilometres across India away from his home and family. Saroo learns to survive alone in Kolkata before ultimately being adopted by an Australian couple.

Mercedes teases new convertible version of the AMG GT

A new teaser clip from Mercedes-AMG’s Instagram page shows off what looks like a roadster version of the AMG GT sports car. The car, which will reportedly be called the Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster, is tipped to be getting a 4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 456 horsepower—which is similar to the standard AMG GT coupe. The roof of the convertible looks to be made of fabric instead of the heavier retractable hardtop. Pricing should be over US$111,000. We will find out soon enough at the Paris Motor Show where the new car will debut.
