Microsoft exec claims they won’t hit 1 billion device installs target by 2018 for Windows 10

Microsoft set the bar high for itself by aiming to have one billion devices with Windows 10 installed by the year 2018. However, the company recently acknowledged the timeline isn’t feasible. According to Windows Marketing Chief Yusuf Mehdi, the goal is still one billion but it won’t happen that soon. They attribute this to the reduction of the Windows Phone business. Mehdi says Windows 10 is “off to the hottest start in history” as they have over 350 monthly active devices—these devices include everything from PCs, laptops, tablets, to some smartphones.

Windows 10 was received better in the PC world but users have complained about being forced to upgrade with repeated messages asking them to do so. Due to the blowback from this, Microsoft is changing their approach on how to remind users to upgrade.

Vinyl is one of the most ambitious and heralded projects to make it to HBO. This series, which was recently renewed and then not renewed, brings together the star power of Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger, who are co-producers of this gritty, soulful and  often violent look back at the music industry as it was in 1973 when punk, hip-hop and disco were slowly surfacing in New York City.

Google’s accepting submissions from North American developers for its Indie Games Festival

Google hopes to get more indie game developers to create games for their platform by hosting a festival in San Francisco on September 24^th. Aptly called the Indie Games Festival, the event wants to host developers and feature some promising titles. Developers with a team of 15 or less can send in their games until August 14^th. Other conditions include that they aren’t a public company and the games must have been released sometime this year. Google isn’t limiting it to mobile games though, they want developers to submit titles for both Tango and Cardboard platforms, too.

Aside from being able to show off their games to the public (the event is open to all), Google is also offering prizes to the teams including Tango hardware, ad space in the Google Play Store, and tickets to next year’s Google I/O.

BitTorrent introduces streaming service app BitTorrent Now

You most likely know of BitTorrent for the illegal content that gets shared on its peer-to-peer platform. But this new app is completely legal and works similar to how other content streaming services work. BitTorrent Now first debuted on Android but is now available for iOS and Apple TV. They’ve enlisted the help of various publishers, such as The Onion, Super Deluxe, and IHeartComix, to share content that’s either free, paid, or ad-supported. The content creators are the one who have control over their content. Users will need to either sign-in or pay to access content. If you feel like checking this out, the app is now up for download on the App Store.
