Yahoo Mail introduces a slew of new features for iOS and Android

Yahoo Mail debuts a different set of new features for iOS and Android users. The iOS update centers around sharing, while the Android update is all about your contacts. For iOS, the app gets a new link preview feature, which shows your recipient a visual card of a link you send. You can opt to place this at the center or bottom of your email. This enhanced link is easier to share on social media. iOS users also get stationery themes courtesy of Paperless Post, which lets you customize your emails with designs like Floral, Thank You, and Happy Birthday, to name a few. It’s also easier to share content from other iOS apps as Yahoo Mail is now accessible in the share option.

Android users, on the other hand, can now see all the people they contact via Yahoo Mail through the People Smart View tab in the sidebar. All you need to do is click on the “see all contacts” to see and edit the list of people you’ve communicated with. Android users can now also sync Yahoo Address Book contacts with contacts on your smartphone. This feature is off by default and can be turned on in the sync settings of your Android phone. There are new animations on Android (like when you star or delete an email) as well as a congratulatory message for when you hit inbox zero. Yahoo is also opening an open beta for Android users who want to try out new and experimental features.

Facebook shows off first video using its Surround 360 rig

Curious about what kind of videos are possible with Facebook’s Surround 360 camera rig? Mark Zuckerberg posted the first video shot and produced with the Surround 360. It shows what’s possible for virtual reality movies and what the camera is capable off. The clip is a 3.5 minutes and has you sitting in New York City’s Grand Central Terminal watching people as they pass by. It makes you feel like you’re right there in the midst of everyone. The great thing is you don’t need a VR headset to see the video. We’d suggest using your phone since it lets you change views by just tilting the device.
