Apple said to be investigating celebrity photo theft connection to iCloud

News broke earlier today of stolen private celebrity photos that were hacked from their various personal accounts and then leaked to newsgroups.

According to various reports, private photos including nudes taken from actresses and models were stolen in a massive security breach encompassing various private online accounts. The hackers then placed the photos up on newsgroup 4Chan, possibly to bait buyers to pay for the stolen and potentially scandalous private photos.

It was insinuated that the breach involved various online services including Apple's iCloud, which synchronizes and backup files from user's mobile devices and desktops.  An Apple spokesperson said today that the company is actively investigating if there was indeed a breach to its user's accounts. "We take user privacy very seriously and are actively investigating this report." The FBI is also on the case, tracking how this breach of personal privacy took place and affected dozens of celebrities.

Hacking celebrity accounts, whether on online services or on celfones is nothing new. Various starlets and actors have been victim to getting their personal information and photos stolen. More salacious material such as sexy or nude selfies are often the target of these security breaches. Stay tuned for more developments in this story.

Report claims Apple partners with American Express for mobile payments in iPhone 6

Days away from the upcoming Apple event and the rumour mill is abuzz with life. A new report has surfaced saying Apple has reached an agreement with American Express to bring new mobile payment systems for the upcoming iPhone. This is in line with part leaks that have shown the presence of NFC (finally) in the iPhone 6. There are credit card companies that support NFC use for wireless payments and hopefully Apple’s supposed entry into the space might push merchants to support this kind of payment system. We’ll just have to wait a bit more to see if there is any truth to the new rumour.

Twitter revamps sign-up process for newbies

Twitter wants to lure in new users with a more follow-friendly sign-up process. The app will now ask you to choose topics you are interested in and then will offer you suggestions based on your selection. You will even be able to view recent tweets from these accounts to give you a better sense of whether you’d want to follow them or not. It will admittedly get a bit tedious though because the default is you will follow all the suggestions and you’d have to manually deselect those you don’t want to watch.
