Steve Ballmer to buy LA Clippers for $2 billion

Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is reportedly buying the Los Angeles Clippers NBA franchise for a staggering $2 billion. This is record money for an NBA franchise, the Clippers have been in the news lately, not because of their playoff heroics but because their (former) owner Donald Sterling hit headlines for making racist comments in a surreptitiously recorded conversation.

The NBA banned Sterling from attending any NBA game and pushed for the sale of the LA Clippers. Steve Ballmer took over from Bill Gates as CEO of Microsoft and led the company through a difficult transition period. He left Microsoft early this year and was replaced by Satya Nadella, who has already put his imprint on a number of major moves within Microsoft.

"I will be honored to have my name submitted to the NBA Board of Governors for approval as the next owner of the Los Angeles Clippers.  I love basketball," Ballmer said in a statement. "And I intend to do everything in my power to ensure that the Clippers continue to win – and win big – in Los Angeles."

Eddy Cue: Apple has ‘best product pipeline’ in 25 years coming up

Walt Mossberg, Kara Swisher, Eddy Cue, and Jimmy Iovine

Apple’s senior vice president for Internet software and services Eddy Cue isn’t playing coy with his recent statement. The iCloud and iTunes chief said the company is introducing its best products later this year in the past 25 years. “Later this year, we’ve got the best product pipeline that I’ve seen in my 25 years at Apple,” Cue said.  He made this statement at the Code Conference in California, where he appeared on stage with Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine. As we all know, Beats has just been bought by Apple.

It has been a relatively quiet year of refreshes and product updates for Apple so far, so we can’t wait to see what products Cue is talking about. We should probably start seeing some of these at Apple’s upcoming developer conference. Stay tuned for our live coverage from WWDC next week!

Looks like Microsoft doesn’t want to be too far behind in the wearable tech game. According to a Forbes report, Microsoft is also joining the smartwatch market with Kinect engineers working on the project as well. The device will reportedly be like a life tracker and collect health information around the clock. It will be compatible not just with Windows Phone but with Android and iOS as well. It might look similar to Samsung’s Gear Fit and have a color touchscreen. Battery life is said to last for around two days.
