Gmail for iOS update brings new look, full-screen compose for iPad

Google updates its Gmail iOS app to feature a more iOS 7-friendly look plus more features for iPad version. The navigation bar for the iPad has been slimmed down and allows users to switch between accounts while in landscape view. iPad Gmail users can also have full-screen Compose windows in portrait.

The iPhone app has also been redesigned a bit but the bulk of the user interface changes were done to the iPad app.

Apple updates iBooks, iTunes U apps for iOS 7

Apple has finally redesigned its iTunes U and iBooks app and store to match iOS 7’s look. iTunes U took out the dark interior textures for a lighter design and iBooks good rid of wooden textures and bookshelves to feature a more minimal design.

Samsung Galaxy Gear update adds more notifications

A new update of the Samsung Galaxy Gear Manager app displays more use notification features for your smartphone. Almost every notification your phone gets will now be displayed on the smart watch, including Hangouts messages and email previews.

There was once a time when the Nexus badge on a device meant a truly unique Android experience that was months, and sometimes a year ahead of what most Android smartphones were pushing. Cutting edge features, impressive specs and the promise of Pure Google experience were a big draw to developers and alpha geeks alike.

This year's Nexus 5 smartphone, created by LG under Google's strict supervision is, in many ways, just the right device to represent the KitKat-powered future of Android. But boy, how things have changed.
