The Apple Beat: Apple wins patent infringement case against Samsung, awarded $1 billion in damages

Apple Inc. has been vindicated in its unprecedented patent case against rival Samsung. The nine-member jury at the San Jose Federal court ruled for Apple  today in the case that began in April 2011. The landmark case revolved around Samsung's copying of Apple's design and functionality in its iPhone and iPad devices. Apple was not found guilty of any of the instances of patent infringement charged by Samsung.

Samsung is going for the Hi-Fi speaker and dock segment

Samsung Canada recently launched their line of audio docks that are designed to interface with smartphones and tablets via Bluetooth, AllShare and AirPlay, including the DA-E750 which integrates a vaccuum tube.

According to Samsung, this is world’s first multi-device audio dock system featuring vacuum tube technology. Designed to work with Samsung GALAXY and other mainstream mobile devices like Apple's iPhone. Combining vacuum tube and digital amplifiers, it is a must have at home and in the office for trendsetters who enjoy premium sound quality.

This is Samsung's first foray into the premium Hi-Fi accessory market. Pricing and availability information was not revealed.

HP launches Spectre XT Ultrabook, starts at $999

In order to celebrate the launch of the Spectre XT Ultrabook, HP Canada held a Wine Pairing event yesterday at the well hidden VIntage Conservatory at 100 Lombard St.,Toronto. The new Spectre is a slimmed down version of the original Spectre. That first Spectre was suited top to bottom in Gorilla Glass but the Spectre XT, which retails for a $999 starting price, is mostly aluminum. Sporting Intel Core i5 processors, an 8-hour battery life and as thin as 14.5 mm and starting at only 3.07 lbs, it is one of the more portable Ultrabooks we've seen to date.
