CD Projekt Red partners with Epic Games for the next 'Witcher' game

Source: CD Projekt Red

The next Witcher game is coming, but we can't say when it'll arrive. What we know now is The Witcher: A New Saga Begins will mark the game's shift from CD Projekt Red's REDengine to Epic Games' Unreal 5. CDPR says this game marks the "beginning of a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games." And that it "covers not only licensing but technical development of Unreal Engine 5." It will help with tailoring the engine for "open-world experiences."

As Kotaku pointed out, the last full Witcher game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, came out seven years ago. But it got regular updates, so the game was kept fresh. We aren't sure when the new saga will begin, and CDPR said it had "no further details regarding the game—such as a development time frame or release date."

Ubisoft is focusing on expanding its operations in Canada with a recent announcement of creating 200 more jobs in Manitoba and expanding its Winnipeg studio to 300 employees by 2030. The company intends to invest an additional $139 million in the province of Manitoba, tripling its current studio size. This will bring the developer's total investment in the area to $264 million from 2018 to 2030.

The company also previously targeted to grow its Winnipeg studio to 100 within five years of its founding. And that will already be met this month, more than a year ahead of its commitment. Ubisoft plans to continue investing in local entrepreneurs and contribute $1 million to the ecosystem by 2030. Ubisoft Winnipeg intends to hire additional Programmers, including Engine Programmers, Tools Programmers, Online Programmers, and talent from other specialized areas of expertise to support its ambitious plans.
