Anker's new USB-C hub allows M1 MacBooks to connect to up to 3 external monitors

The Apple M1-powered MacBooks, by default, can only output to a single external monitor. Anker saw this issue and unveiled a new 10-in-1 USB-C hub that can allow the MacBook to support up to three external displays. The Anker 563 dock retails for US$249.99 (around CA$321) and includes USB-C, USB-A, 3.5mm audio, and Ethernet. Of course, you'd want to learn more about the HDMI ports. One can go up to 4K but only up to 30Hz, a second HDMI port can support 2K at up to 60Hz, and a DisplayPort can support 2K at 60Hz. 

That 4K at 30Hz wouldn't feel particularly smooth to use. But as The Verge pointed out, if you're just watching video content or have productivity software opened there, you might not have an issue with that. Another limitation is that you'll need DisplayLink software to get the M1 MacBook to output to these many monitors, which could be a troublesome experience.

Sony has a few new console covers for you to customize your PlayStation 5 with, and these are galaxy-inspired shades. Or at least they get galactic-inspired names. There's now a Starlight Blue, Galactic Purple, and Nova Pink. These are launching on June 17, but pre-orders are available on PlayStation Direct in the US, UK, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. Unfortunately, we don't know when it'll make its way here. We did get the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red options, so we hope these colours make their way here.

Apple devices to get Live Captions, Door Detection accessibility features

In honour of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Apple has introduced many accessibility options to mark the occasion. One of them is a beta test for Live Captions, which will be available in English for Canada and the U.S. later this year. This feature will automatically transcribe audio content from anything like a FaceTime call, YouTube stream, or even a real-life conversation with someone nearby. It is designed to work on iPhone 11 and later, iPad models with A12 Bionic and later, and Macs with Apple Silicon. Apple says its accuracy may vary and warns against relying on it in "high-risk situations."

There's also a new Door Detection feature to help those who are blind or have low vision. It's meant to help you locate doors when you're in a new area. It's designed to work with iPad and iPhone models with the LiDaR scanner. It combines the LiDaR with the device's camera and AI capabilities. This means it'll only work on the 2nd and 3rd gen 11-inch iPad Pro, 4th and 5th gen 12.9-inch iPad Pro models, and iPhone 12 Pro and 13 Pro devices. Apple cautions against using it in "circumstances where a user may be harmed or injured, or in high-risk or emergency situations." Learn more about the other accessibility features here.
