Don't expect new Mac releases for the remainder of 2022

Apple might be done releasing new Macs this year. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported in his weekly newsletter that Apple is done releasing new Macs for the year. So rumoured updates for the MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and Mac Pro are expected in the first quarter of 2023.

"I'm told that Apple is aiming to introduce the upgraded models—including M2-based versions of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros—in the first quarter of calendar 2023," Gurman wrote. In Apple's latest earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook said its "product lineup is set" ahead of the holidays, suggesting there will no longer be new product launches for the rest of the year.

Apple tipped to launch revamped Mac mini with rumoured M1X processor

Source: Apple

If reports are accurate, Apple might be launching an update to the Mac mini featuring the company's rumoured next-gen chip, the M1X. In his newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that the redesigned Mac mini would get the new processor, and it should arrive in "the next several months." Apple hasn't announced the M1X, but this has been rumoured to outperform the existing M1 chip.

The Mac mini will reportedly get more ports, and it'll focus on power users. There might be more colourful options for it, too. This model will likely cost more than what Apple currently offers, so Apple might still keep the M1 version of the Mac mini around. Apple is tipped to launch a redesigned MacBook Pro model in the fall. It's also rumoured to get the M1X chip. Perhaps we might see both devices then.

Products are usually rendered obsolete five to seven years after manufacturing has been discontinued, making the parts no longer available to repair staff. The products that have been rendered obsolete for Canada starting December 31, 2016 include the MackBook Pro 15-inch (early 2011), MacBook Pro 17-inch (early 2011), Mac mini (early 2009), and MacBook 13-inch (mid 2009).
