Oscar winner Taika Waititi takes a jab at Apple MacBook keyboards

Sometimes it's hard to tell whether writer/director Taika Waititi is being serious or not, but there are some important points he raised during his backstage Q&A at the 2020 Oscars. The director of Thor: Ragnarok took home his first Academy Award for the Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on Jojo Rabbit. When a reporter asked him about what writers should ask for when in talks with producers, Waititi went into a rant about Apple keyboards.

He said, "Apple needs to fix those keyboards. They are impossible to write on—they've gotten worse. It makes me want to go back to PCs. Because PC keyboards, the bounce-back for your fingers is way better. Hands up who still uses a PC? You know what I'm talking about. It's a way better keyboard. And those Apple keyboards are horrendous."

Apple discontinues the 12-inch MacBook

With the upgrades done to the likes of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, it seems like the right time to discontinue on old, possibly redundant Apple MacBook. And so we say goodbye to the 12-inch model. This laptop was first introduced back in 2015, and it’s the first model to bring in a new era of MacBook design. It was the first to offer USB-C, the first to introduce the controversial and problematic butterfly keyboard, and the first to not have a glowing Apple logo in years. As Engadget points out though, the recently refreshed Air made the MacBook a bit of an outlier. It was thinner and lighter than any computer in Apple’s lineup, but it was severely underpowered compared to the rest of Apple’s lineup.

Apple gives MacBook some love with new leather sleeves

Apple's 12-inch Retina MacBook may not get a lot of mention but it still remains one of the most impressive products in the Mac roster as a full-featured notebook Mac with the most portable form factor. Apple just a released some tasty new leather sleeves to help protect the sleek laptop. Available in Midnight Blue and Saddle Brown, the Leather Sleeve,  "is crafted from high-quality French leather with a soft microfibre lining. The unique style of the sleeve allows you to charge your 12-inch MacBook while keeping it protected," Apple's store website says.

Seeing as my MacBook is my go-to travel computer (and I do see a lot of them in airport lounges and in planes), a bespoke leather case might just be the best companion for this notebook. Price in Canada is $179.00.

KGI Securities analyst foresees new Kaby Lake-powered MacBooks coming this year, including one with 32GB desktop-class RAM

Looks like MacBooks are getting refreshed this year, with one of them getting desktop-class specs—at least according to the new research note from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. According to Kuo, there will be 12-inch MacBook models running on Intel Kaby Lake processors entering production in early second quarter. There will supposedly be a 16GB RAM option for this lineup, which could be a high-end version or one of the built-to-order configurations. At the moment 12-inch MacBooks have only up to 8GB of RAM.
