Apple tipped to bring Mini LED screen to the 11-inch iPad Pro

Photo by David Švihovec on Unsplash

When Apple launched the new Apple iPad Pro, it only brought its Mini LED screen to the 12.9-inch model. But according to analyst Ming-chi Kuo, the company plans to introduce the display to the 11-inch model next year. This screen technology uses thousands of tiny LEDs to create focused local dimming zones. The effect is you get better contrast and HDR performance.

On top of the iPads, Apple reportedly plans to bring this display tech to the MacBook series. The 14- and 16-inch models will reportedly go into production this quarter, while a redesigned MacBook Air with Mini LED screens is coming in 2022. Of course, all of this now is just speculation, and Kuo has previously claimed that cheaper iPad models are getting OLED panels.

Apple warns customers against closing laptops with camera covers

Apple is reminding its MacBook owners that it's not good to close their laptops if a camera cover is in place. Why? Because it could crack your display. The company said the clearance between the screen and keyboard is designed to very tight tolerances." Apple posted the advisory on July 2.

Plastic camera covers with sliding mechanisms are common, especially for users concerned about potentially getting spied on. But this comes at the cost of breaking your laptop's screen, which can be expensive to get repaired. Apple urges its customers to trust the green LED beside the camera illuminates when the camera is active. But it does acknowledge that some people are required to use covers by their employers. So, Apple says the covering should just be taken off before closing the device.

Mac OS 15.5.5 update introduces Battery Health Management for MacBooks

The latest update to Mac OS 10.5 Catalina has a new Battery Health Management setting that will enhance how MacBooks manage battery life specially for laptops that are often plugged in and docked for extended periods of time daily.

Granular battery management ensures that batteries last longer through time. From what we understand, this feature prevents batteries from charging to 100 percent, which increase temperature and shorten battery life. You might want to turn this off if you're going on a longer trip and need to max out your charge. Only a company like Apple, who creates the hardware as well as the OS and software integration can offer this level of control.

Apple said that the Battery Health Management feature will be available on all MacBooks that are equipped with Thunderbolt 3, so that means all MacBook Pro models from 2016 and later, and the 2018 or later MacBook Air.

Whether or not you use an Apple MacBook, you most likely know what it is by just looking at one. It's so pervasive in our society that Apple decided to make an ad that highlights its appearance in a lot of popular Japanese anime. The clip shows the MacBook, as well as some lookalikes, from shows and films like Mr. Osomatsu, Your Name, New Game!, Weathering With You, to name a few. The one in Mr. Osomatsu features a pear-shaped logo on the laptop. The ad even has clips with one of the characters from Weathering With You wearing AirPods.
