Apple's new MacBook Air is now supercharged by the M5 chip. This latest iteration focuses heavily on storage and speed, finally doubling the base storage capacity from 256GB to 512GB. For power users, Apple has also introduced a 4TB configuration option, paired with a new SSD that delivers twice the read/write performance of the previous generation. These upgrades make this laptop a much more capable tool for creators and students handling large libraries and artificial intelligence-related workloads.

We might not see an OLED MacBook Air until four years from now. A new report from the Korean publication The Elec said Apple might not add an OLED screen to its MacBook Air line until 2028. The OLED MacBook Air was originally tipped to launch in 2027.

The report cited component industry sources claiming the postponement reflects growing production costs and pricing concerns. Apple is reportedly considering how this premium display technology could impact prices and keep people from buying. Apple hasn't responded to CNET to comment about the report.

Apple gives MacBook Air a 16GB RAM upgrade

Photo: Apple

Aside from debuting the new iMac, Mac mini, and MacBook Pro, Apple made a small yet important update to the MacBook Air. The M2 and M3 models now have 16GB of RAM as their minimum memory. You used to have to spend extra to get 16GB of RAM on your MacBook Air, but now the laptop is more in line with its competitors and the rest of Apple's computer lineup. This means the 8GB RAM option is no longer available for an Apple computer.

The most likely reason for the upgrade is Apple Intelligence. Artificial intelligence models usually require a lot of RAM to work well, and 16GB seems like the minimum you'll need for these machines to run more smoothly. The Apple MacBook Air starts at $1,299 in Canada for the M2 model, $1,449 for the 13-inch M3 model, and $$1,749 for the 15-inch M3 model.
