Apple doubles down on storage for the new M5-powered MacBook Air

Source: Apple

Apple's new MacBook Air is now supercharged by the M5 chip. This latest iteration focuses heavily on storage and speed, finally doubling the base storage capacity from 256GB to 512GB. For power users, Apple has also introduced a 4TB configuration option, paired with a new SSD that delivers twice the read/write performance of the previous generation. These upgrades make this laptop a much more capable tool for creators and students handling large libraries and artificial intelligence-related workloads.

Under the hood, the M5 chip introduces a 10-core CPU and a next-generation GPU with a Neural Accelerator in every core. This hardware leap allows the MacBook Air to process AI tasks up to four times faster than the M4 model. Connectivity also gets a modern overhaul via the new N1 wireless chip, which brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support to the Air for the first time. Even with these performance gains, the laptop maintains its signature silent, fanless design and offers up to 18 hours of battery life, now supported by a new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter in the box.

The M5 MacBook Air remains available in both 13-inch and 15-inch sizes and comes in four colours: Midnight, Starlight, Silver, and Sky Blue. Pre-orders for the updated lineup begin tomorrow, March 4, with the devices officially reaching customers and retail stores on Wednesday, March 11. In Canada, the 13-inch model starts at $1,499, while the 15-inch variant begins at $1,799.
