Transit feature now available for Vancouver and Victoria on Apple Maps 

The Transit feature in Apple Maps is now available to Victoria and Vancouver as well as other areas in British Columbia. Transit shows public transit information including subways, buses, trains and ferries, with lines and stations right on the map.

Transit is now available to iPhone users in Victoria, Vancouver and other rails in British Columbia, marking SkyTrain trains and bus routes. If you were to click on the Entrances and Exits by train stations, you’d see more detail as to whether it’s an entrance or exit with stairs, escalator, elevator or other accessibility options. 

The Transit feature is customized for each city where and can be accessed on Apple Maps in iOS and macOS versions.

Transit information in Maps is now available in Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Berlin, Boston, Chicago, Honolulu, Kansas City, London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Miami, Montreal, New York City, Philadelphia, Portland, Rio de Janeiro, Sacramento, San Francisco, Seattle, Sydney, Toronto and Washington D.C., as well as over 300 cities in China, including Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai. Nearby information is available in the US and China.

Foursquare now also feeds business data to Apple Maps

Since its inception, Apple has promised they would collect data from varied sources to help develop its Maps application. Sticking to their word, Apple has added Foursquare to its “business listing data.” It’s almost been a month though since they’ve added Foursquare to its Acknowledgements page and so you’ve probably been unwittingly using Foursquare information when you use Apple’s Maps app. Some of the other sources for business listings include Booking.com, Trip Advisor, Yelp, and Yellow Pages. Hopefully the addition will help boost accuracy of the information further.

Apple's Maps Connect now available for Canadian small businesses

Apple has announced that Canadian business owners will be able to add their business location and information to Apple Maps via an Apple Maps Connect service. Ideal for entrepreneurs and small businesses who want to make their location, store hours and other information easy to find on Apple Maps.

Apple adds more Flyover locations to Maps

Apple recently updated its Maps app to add more locations to the Maps Flyover feature for iOS and OS X. This feature lets you take a closer, more three-dimensional look at areas. Apple added three new areas in France including Avignon, Biarritz, and Perpignan; two landmarks in Arizona including the Grand Canyon and Meteor Crater; as well as Devil’s Tower in Wyoming; Dunedin in New Zealand; Royal Gorge in Arkansas; and Visby in Sweden.
