Apple TV users will finally be able to use VPN apps with tvOS 17

Screenshot: MacRumors

VPN apps are a convenient way to connect to a virtual private network (VPN) on iOS and macOS devices, but Apple TV has been missing this feature until now. With tvOS 17, which will be released later this year, Apple will enable developers to create VPN apps for Apple TV and distribute them through the Apple TV App Store. Apple announced tvOS 17 at its WWDC 2023 keynote on Monday but did not mention the VPN support during the presentation. However, the company revealed more details about the new feature on its website.

Apple TV app will supposedly come to Android

Android users may finally get easier access to Apple TV+ service. Twitter user ShrimpApplePro, who has accurately leaked the iPhone 14 Pro's Dynamic Island hardware design, claims the company is internally testing the Apple TV app for Android. However, there isn't a specific timeframe for its release. If it comes out, it'll make it easier for Android users to access the Apple TV+ streaming service instead of having to rely on the browser version of the service. It would also help Apple attract more viewers to its service, so it would be a win for the company, too.

Facebook discontinues Watch app on Apple TV

Source: 9to5Mac

The Facebook Watch app on the Apple TV is no more. The company confirmed with 9to5Mac that it no longer supports the tvOS platform, even though, strangely enough, it gets a new logo, and the app still appears on the App Store. If you update to the latest app version, you'll no longer get access to it. Instead, you see a message saying the app "is no longer available." It'll mention that you can watch the videos on Facebook's site. However, since tvOS doesn't have a browser, you can only watch Facebook videos when you use AirPlay from another Apple device.
