Apple promotes Deidre O' Brien to VP of People

On the heels of announcing Isabel Ge Mahe's promotion to general manager and managing director of Greater China, the company has announced that Deidre O' Brien will move to VP of People for the Apple.

O' Brien was previously vice president of Worldwide Sales and Operations. She has been named vice president of People, reporting to CEO Tim Cook. A nearly 30-year Apple veteran, Deirdre will lead all HR functions including talent development, recruiting, benefits, compensation and business support, as well as overseeing Apple University.

“As long as I’ve been at Apple, Deirdre has been the glue that bonds our operations, sales, marketing and finance teams to deliver products to our customers,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “Deirdre deeply understands Apple’s unique culture and that people join Apple to do the best work of their lives.  She is a superb leader and I’m thrilled she will be bringing her experience and talent to this critical role.”

Apple names Isabel Ge Mahe as Managing Director of Greater China

Appleannounced that Isabel Ge Mahe, the company's vice president of Wireless Technologies, has been named vice president and managing director of Greater China, reporting to CEO Tim Cook and COO Jeff Williams. In this newly created role, Isabel will provide leadership and coordination across Apple’s China-based team.

“Apple is strongly committed to invest and grow in China, and we are thrilled that Isabel will be bringing her experience and leadership to our China team,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “She has dedicated a great deal of her time in recent years to delivering innovation for the benefit of Apple customers in China, and we look forward to making even greater contributions under her leadership.”

Apple to bundle Beats headphones with new iPads and Macs for students

Apple is giving incentives to students buying new Macs or iPads. With the purchase of a Mac from an Apple Store, students are given Beats free, with the option of choosing from Beats Solo3, Powerbeats3 or BeatsX. Students who buy iPad Pro will be provided BeatsX free, with the option to upgrade styles to Powerbeats3 for an additional $50, or Beats Solos3 for $150 more. Mac mini excluded. In addition to receiving Beats headphones, students can take advantage of saving through Apple’s education pricing for students.

Apple's 'A Portrait of Canada,' shot on iPhone film focuses on country's inclusivity and diversity

Apple is celebrating Canada's 150th anniversary by focusing on Canadian-made apps and developers a well sa creating narratives with images and videos shot on iPhone.

Apple enlisted three Canadian artists to help capture the inclusive and optimistic character of their country in A Portrait of Canada, a short film shot on iPhone and released today. Humble the Poet, photographer Caitlin Cronenberg and first nations band A Tribe Called Red contributed their words, images and music. Their work was combined with photos shot by iPhone users across Canada.
