The Apple Beat: 10 years ago a very different iMac was launched

Every now and then I like to go back in time and reprint an old story from my early Apple coverage. It is interesting to see how things were back then when Apple was still  in recovery mode. This was 2002, the iPod had already been launched and the the Mac was the 'Digital Hub'. "Jaguar" (OS X 10.2 was the current OS) Compaq and IBM still made computers and PDAs were all the rage. The Apple Beat: Shakeup at Apple as Scott Forstall, John Browett to exit

There's a high-level shakeup at Apple as two leading executives have been set to exit. The most surprising departure is that of Scott Forstall, VP of iOS Software,  who is the key member of Apple's software team and credited for much of iOS (and OS X before that). Forstall is part of the original group of NeXT-ers that followed Steve Jobs back to Cupertino to turn things around.

Apple sells 26.9 million iPhones in record 4th quarter revenue and profit

Still buzzing from a slew of huge product announcements last week inclduding the much awaited ipad mini, Apple announced financial results for its fiscal 2012 fourth quarter ending September 29, 2012.

Apple posted quarterly revenue of $36.0 billion and quarterly net profit of $8.2 billion, or $8.67 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $28.3 billion and net profit of $6.6 billion, or $7.05 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 40.0 percent compared to 40.3 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 60 percent of the quarter’s revenue.
