Samsung commits $22 billion to AI, 5G networks, and smart car technology

The future for Samsung looks bright. The global leader in smartphones is looking to invbest $22 billion the next three years on artificial intelligence, next generation 5G networks as well as future technologies including smart cars.

As the smartphone market hits global saturation point, Samsung is placing its bets on the next generation of disruptive technologies. This includes substantial funding for artificial intelligence (A.I.) which is can be used in everything from smart assistants (Bixby), computational photography as well as smart home platforms (SmartThings).

Review: Samsung Galaxy Tab S4

Credit goes to Samsung for persevering in the Android tablet space despite most other makers, even Google, seemingly abandoning the form factor. Now that 10-inch tablets are a thing again and geared towards productivity as much as content consumption, Samsung’s Tab S4 offers a true modern Android tablet experience, but is this enough?

Let’s face it, Android on tablets hasn’t flourished in nearly eight years. There are very few tablet-optimized Android apps. While Android tablets can run thousands of smartphone apps, there’s very little incentive for developers to focus on tablet users.

Hands-on with the Microsoft Surface Go

Microsoft’s Surface Go is their smallest, most aggressively priced Surface 2-in-1 device geared towards consumers but also aims to be a secondary device for front-line workers, CEO’s or office workers needing a small yet capable Windows tablet.

The device itself is impeccably designed and shares the solid fit and finish of larger Surface devices. It is definitely smaller at 10-inches, but it is also thinner and lighter at under a pound. It’s very easy to make comparisons to the latest Apple iPad and although the Surface Go is priced higher at $529, it is running Windows 10 S for consumers, which  means it can run desktop apps (it can be upgraded to Windows 10 Home).

Apple reports $53.3B revenue record for fiscal 3Q on strength of services segment

Apple just reported that its financial results for its fiscal 2018 third quarter ended June 30, 2018. Apple Inc. posted quarterly revenue of $53.3 billion, an increase of 17 percent from the year-ago quarter, and quarterly earnings per diluted share of $2.34, up 40 percent. International sales accounted for 60 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

Apple's current market cap is $935 billion. If stock value continues to rise above 7 percent, Apple is on its way to becoming the first trillion-dollar company at a price of US $203.46 per share.

This record revenue was fueled largerly by a whopping 31 per cent increase revenue from services which encompass various Apple Store, iTunes, Apple Pay, AppleCare, licensing and other ecosystem-related plays.
