'Obi-Wan Kenobi' comes to Disney+ on May 25

Source: Disney

It might have been a missed opportunity to premiere the new Star Wars series on Disney+. But Obi-Wan Kenobi will be premiered on the same day as A New Hope over at Disney's streaming service. The company shared new poster art for the series debuting on May 25.

Obi-Wan Kenobi has Ewan McGregor reprising his role as the titular character. Hayden Christensen will also reprise his role as Darth Vader. The series will begin with protecting Luke Skywalker following the rise of the Empire. The Mandalorian's Deborah Chow will direct this limited series.

Marvel's 'Eternals' is now on Disney+

Source: Marvel

If you have been waiting for Marvel's Eternals to make its debut on Disney's streaming service, then your wait is over. The Marvel film is now available to stream on the service with no additional cost over your monthly subscription fee. The Eternals got a theatrical-exclusive period that's almost as long as some films before the pandemic. It was in theatres for around 68 days, when the pre-pandemic norm was about 75 to 90 days.

The difference is you'll get to stream it on Disney Plus at the same time as you can buy it online on major digital platforms. Before the online rentals, Blu-ray and DVD releases would get the first home-viewing options after a film's theatrical run. As CNET pointed out, it'll be more than twice as expensive to purchase the Eternals outside of a month's subscription to Disney Plus.

Pixar's 'Turning Red' will premiere on Disney+ instead of in theatres

Instead of a theatrical release, Pixar's Turning Red will "premiere exclusively in homes worldwide," at least in countries where Disney+ is available, on March 11. Disney recently announced the change. You won't need to get Premier Access to watch the film. All Disney+ subscribers can watch the new Pixar animation.

Spider-Man: No Way Home may have broken box office records less than a month ago. But, as The Verge pointed out, a spike in COVID-19 cases brought about by the omicron variant and the lacklustre performance of other films could see some moves like Turning Red making streaming premieres again.

Marvel's 'Eternals' to land on Disney+ on Jan. 12

Marvel Studios

Just a little after two months since it hit theatres, Marvel Studios' Eternals is coming to Disney's streaming service. Disney+ will have the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film on January 12.

In September, Disney announced that it plans to give its remaining slate of theatrical releases at least 45 days in the cinemas before they are available to stream. The only exception is Encanto, which is coming to Disney+ on December 24 (around 30 days after its cinematic release). Eternals is an example of giving that minimum 45-day window.
