Facebook introduces “Donate” button for non-profits

Facebook has partnered with 19 non-profit organizations in America to launch a “Donate” button. It will help make it easier for you to support organizations like Donors Choose, UNICEF, World Wildlife Fund, and Red Cross. A pop-up window will show up if you decide to donate and you can either enter payment details or use what you already have stored on Facebook.

One potential side effect of this new feature is it can boost Facebook’s business as well since you will be entering billing information on the site. It will bolster the sites ecommerce initiative, Autofill With Facebook, which allows third-party mobile apps to pull billing and shipping information from Facebook without typing too much. And it would help boost advertising programs as well.

Relaxed lets you auto-respond to Facebook and Twitter messages over the Holidays

If you want to step back from your social networking over the Holidays but don’t want to seem like you’re ignoring your followers and friends alike, you can setup Relaxed. The tool responds to Facebook and Twitter mentions on your behalf. There are canned responses or you can generate your own, much like those out of office email responders. However, while it can reply to public and private messages on Facebook, it can’t do the same for Twitter Direct Messages.

Facebook introduces auto-play for videos on mobile

Facebook has rolled out an auto-play feature for native Facebook and Instagram videos on iOS and Android versions of its app. Tech Crunch writer Josh Constine likens it to the moving photos in Harry Potter films. If you’re worried about automatic video playing eating up your data, you can activate the setting on your Facebook app that allows you to auto-play videos only on Wi-Fi. You don’t have to worry about sound blaring out as you scroll through your feed, the videos will initially play without sound unless you tap on it to view the videos with sound and on full screen.

Facebook also plans to monetize this feature and will eventually allow the presence of video ads on your News Feed. Let’s just hope it won’t be as obtrusive and annoying as it can get.
