Insta360 Retro Viewfinder brings an old-school feel to the modern action cam

Insta360

The tiny Insta360 GO 3S will now work with an old tech-inspired accessory. The Insta360 Retro Viewfinder lets you pop in your Go 3S and frame your shots the "old school" way with its passive optical viewfinder. Without the digital screens, it forces you to shoot from the hip or chest and adopt a more "point-and-shoot mentality," as the company puts it.

That said, the Retro Viewfinder doesn't fully strip away the convenient digital features. By tapping on the case's custom NFC skin, you can change settings or see a live preview of what's happening on your phone. It'll bring you to the Insta360 app so you can make the changes you want.

Insta360 teases wireless mic with e-ink screen

Source: Insta360

Insta360's newest mic for content creators isn't designed to blend in. Instead, the Insta360 Mic Pro is meant to be shown off. The wireless mic comes with a customizable e-ink display, making it easier to show off personal branding or any element you'd want on display while you're on camera.

The company has yet to reveal when the Insta360 Mic Pro will launch and how much it will cost, so exact specifications of the wireless mic aren't available yet. However, the company noted that it will work with Insta360 Direct Connect. That means it will work directly with Insta360 cameras, including the new Luna series. It also features a three-microphone array, which works with AI-powered processing and NPU-based noise reduction to ensure you get consistent, clear audio in any environment.

Insta360 Luna series to take on the DJI Osmo Pocket

Source: Becca Farsace

Insta360 is going after DJI's gimbal/vlogging cameras next. The upcoming Insta360 Luna Pro and Luna Ultra cameras, which are co-engineered with Leica, promise a familiar experience and form factor as their competition. However, they come with the option of either a single- or dual-lens setup.

Both cameras will sport Type 1 image sensors, f/1.8 lenses with variable focal lengths, and 10-bit colour for "smoother, more natural transitions in light and shadow." The big difference is that the Luna Ultra will have the dual lenses for an "enhanced telephoto performance. Teasing their debut, Insta360 put the camera in the hands of content creators, including Becca Farsace.

Insta360 Ace Pro 2 action camera sports improved 8K recording, larger flip-up screen

Photo: Insta360

Insta360 announced the launch of its new Ace Pro 2 action camera, a GoPro Hero-series competitor. The camera maker introduces a larger display and upgraded 8K video recording capabilities with this action cam. With the monochromatic front display only showing text information, the 180-degree flip-up screen makes it easier to frame shots. It now has a larger 2.5-inch screen over its predecessor's 2.42-inch display and features improved brightness and pixel density. (It also matches the screen size of the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro.) Of course, that hinge can be a durability risk if you use the Ace Pro 2 when you're using it for more extreme activities.

The other noteworthy feature of the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 is its new 8K video recording capability. Instead of recording at 8K at 24 frames per second (fps), the Ace Pro 2 records 8K at 30fps. If you record in 4K, you can access frame rates of up to 120fps or 60fps in HDR. Meanwhile, recording in 1080p offers 240fps recording for smooth slow-motion captures. It can continually capture up to 120 seconds before recording to stop the chances of missing pivotal and memorable moments. Photography gets a boost to 50-megapixel.
