Google on iOS hides your incognito searches behind Touch ID

Google is adding a bit more security or assurance for its iOS users with the latest update for its app. If you are doing private searches within the Google app, Google can lock these searches behind Touch ID, which means if someone else uses your iPhone or iPad, they won’t be able to snoop over what you’ve been searching. For convenience, Google will not close these private searches when you leave the app. You will have to do that yourself. A friendly reminder, though. Going incognito doesn’t mean you’re completely private. It “doesn’t hide your browsing from your employer, your internet service provider, or the websites you visit.” The Google app won’t hide your searches from Google, either, but it won’t tie them to your account. One other feature added to the Google app on iOS is allowing you to watch YouTube videos directly in the app.

Apple fixes bug that shuts off headphone controls on iOS

One of the advantages of Apple having full control over its iOS ecosystem is bug fixes can arrive pretty quickly. A new fix released in version 10.0.2 resolves an issue with Lightning headphone controls getting disabled after a period of inactivity. This bug was reported soon after the iPhone 7 launch last week. And thankfully, Apple addressed the issue rather quickly. The physical controls on the Lightning-connected headphones and earbuds should continue working even after you’ve stopped listening to anything for a while.

Aside from that, this update fixes two other issues: one is regarding Photos closing or quitting when some users switch on iCloud Photo Library and another is regarding “an issue that prevented enabling some app extensions.

Review: Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus

Text and photos By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

iPhone 7 may not have been the huge overhaul many expected but it is a solid and worthy upgrade that will fundamentally change where and how iPhones are used. New camera capabilities are transformative and show innovation in imaging on smartphones is leapfrogging the camera industry.

Apple’s new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus may, on the surface, look like mere updates to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S designs of the past two years.

While this is a fair observation that brings to question Apple’s desire or ability to evolve on past designs, there are a lot of features and functions that are brand new to the iPhone line that aim to keep it at the forefront of the smartphone industry it has helped create.

“We have created a product that is the most deliberate evolution of our founding design,” says Apple’s Chief Design Officer Jony Ive at the start of the video explaining the iPhone 7’s design and construction. The company understands this is an evolutionary chapter in the iPhone’s history, but it doesn’t make it any less significant.
